China Glaze Zombie Zest and Cult Nails I Got Distracted

The End is HERE!!
Well the end of the ABC Challenge anyways. As you can guess today is brought to you by the letter Z. I want to say thank you to Gosia from Life In Color for creating the challenge and inviting everyone to take part. I had a lot of fun digging through my nail polish, making choices, and then seeing what the others came up with! Thank you to everyone who took a minute to visit my blog as well.

I chose China Glaze Zombie Zest, but I also recently got my Cult Nails order in and thought that I Got Distracted would look good as an accent nail.

Zoya Yara

We're getting really close to the end of the ABC challenge. Today is Y and I have Zoya Yara. Yara is one of those ugly pretty shades, its olive green with that amazing irregular shaped golden shimmer we've been seeing in polishes lately.
Zoya Yara

Sorry about the ding
Oh man! So I guess I dented my middle finger (Don't get me started on her again) on my way outside to take pictures. I didn't even realise until I loaded my pics on the computer. So for that reason this will be a picture light post... booo! I know! sorry, Sorry!

I stamped with Konad Plate M4 and Essie Good as Gold. My younger sister went to Vegas and saw the fabled Konad stand, she was awesome enough to pick up this and 2 other plates for me. I guess the lady working at the booth refused to believe her that the person she was purchasing the plates for (aka ME) already had Konad supplies, and kept telling her the she NEEDED to get the stamper and scrapper. I'm not sure how exactly the conversation panned out, but my sister left without buying the stamper, and I can imagine the lady shaking her head, wondering what some poor person is going to do with just plates lol.

Have a great day fellow nailphiles!

Barielle Swizzle Stix with Nfu Oh 61

Happy Monday!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! The letter X is up for the ABC Challenge and its the only letter I didn't have a polish to match. I had to settle with an X within the name. Barrielle Swizzle StiX and Nfu Oh 61(siXty one).

Barielle Swizzle Stix, OPI Alpine Snow, Stamped with Nfu Oh 61

I stamped using Konad Plate M73 and Nfu Oh 61. I believe I have the OK version of 61 as mine is about 3 years old, that being said the holo just did not show up over the white polish and barely showed up on the blue. It stamped fine aside from the disappearing holographic goodness. Trust me, when this version of 61 is on its own, its on FIRE! Hopefully I'll get some swatches up soon.

Thanks for reading guys, I hope you have a great start to the week.

Essie Who is The Boss

Happy Saturday :) I love the weekend so much... yes, yes, yes I know I am on mat leave but still! just the feeling of the weekend is more relaxed and fun. Anyone got any plans? I'm taking my kids to the African Lion Safari, which should be a good time.

Today its W for the ABC Challenge and I chose Essie Who is the Boss. Can you believe how far we made it? Only 3 more letters after this... I don't know what I'll do once its finished.

Essie Who is the Boss
Who is the Boss is a very light whitened blue/grey shade that just screams modern. I really liked how this shade looked next to my skin. It is much softer than white, and you can see that it is blue in real life, its got that mod edge to it. Very cool shade.

Shade Picture

Essie Blue Rhapsody and Konad Plate M78

I tried to go for some tone on tone stamping by using Essie Blue Rhapsody and Konad Plate M78. I quite like how it looked. Over all a win for me!

Do you guys like monotone stamping? or do you prefer contrasting? Personally I like contrasting or plain white the best, but today I took a walk out of my comfort zone.

Thanks for reading everyone! Have great weekend!

Butter London Victoriana

Hi! How are ya?

Today is the letter V for The ABC Challenge and I got Butter London Victoriana for you. This will be my 3rd Butter London on this blog, the first 2 (Disco Biscuit, British Racing Green) didn't do much to impress me on the brand, lets see if Victoriana will shifts my opinion.
Butter London Victoriana
Before I go on, I think now is a good time to see what Butter London has to about Victoriana:

"A textured twinkling vintage blue pale and slightly smoky. Things reminiscent of  theVictorian era,   such as corsets, top hats and Syphilis."

Fair enough...
Personally I love this shade, it came out looking a little greener than the pictures show, but the glitters are really that noticeable and the formula is great. Now I get it when people sing praises to the Butter London formula. This polish is defiantly a keeper (which is good to know,  bc I'm currently purging excess) .
I stamped using Konad plate M77 with Essie Nothing Else Metals. I knew I should have stopped while I was ahead, but I went and added dots using a no name holo glitter striper. It ended up looking like gross old warts! It doesn't look to bad if you can look past the silvery protruding growths I added.

Have a great day everyone! Oh! And thanks for reading :)

SpaRitual Undercurrent

Todays mani is the letter U and I have Sparitual Undercurrent. I ran out of time to decorate this mani, but the gorgeous blue colour of Undercurrent should be enough to hold you over :)
Sparitual Undercurrent
My orginal post with Undercurrent is HERE. I used 2 coats in the photo above, but then I was rushing out the door and big time chipped my middle finger (you AGAIN!) so she has an extra coat slapped on top.

Thanks for reading!

Cult Nails Swanbourne

Hello everyone!

I hope your Monday is off to a good start!

Today I have another lovely Cult Nails shade for you called Swanbourne. Its a delicious olive brown with large golden shimmer particles within. I found the formula of this polish to be just a wee bit thick for my taste, but not problematic. Three coats were needed for complete coverage, it dried quickly, shiny and smooth. Its my tribute to the Hunger Games ABC Challenge for the letter S.

Cult Nails Sawnbourne
Stamped with Konad Plate M57 (seriously the best plate) & Essie Good as Gold, then I covered up most of my mistakes with Sparitual Undercurrent (which I just happened to have handy, because letter U is creeping up on me). Next  I sponged on OPI Bring on the Bling! (the exclamation mark is part of the name, I'm not yelling at you lol). I seemed to have forgotten how dense the Burlesque glitters really are, because if you look at my thumb, that's where I had the *brilliant* idea to try and paint a little on... ummm no, way to packed. I ended up sponging.

I should have taken a picture, but I used my right hand as stamping practice so I can get a feel of how a stamp will look with the base, how I'd like to position it on my nail, plus it give me a good warm up before I do my left hand (aka picture hand) :P I usually ended up with 2-3 different designs.

Thanks for reading guys, have a great week!

Revlon Royal

Today I have "R" for the alphabet challenge and I decided on a dotticure using Revlon Royal with China Glaze Riveting, Harvest Moon and OPI Pandamonium Pink:
Revlon Royal
Please excuse the tip wear, I had very little opportunity to photograph do my nails due to all sorts of construction going on in my yard (...and that's why I'm a little behind... again). One day I will post before and after pics of my yard for you guys!

Royal is a beautiful blue that I can never get to translate well in pictures. Due to the jelly and glossy finish of this polish it can look streaky in direct light, where in real life you don't notice it.

I know its also old news now, but I cannot get enough of Riveting and Harvest Moon, They will be seeing a lot more action now that fall is just peeking around the corner. This morning when I woke up I could smell fall in the air.

One last thing for my fellow Canadians, the  letter "R" had me thinking of:

I never WIN! (source & cute article too)

Thanks for reading! Have a great day guys :)

Cult Nails Quench

I'm back today with a... you guess it! Another vampy shade... But seriously today is the letter "Q" in the alphabet challenge, and when you actually HAVE a polish that starts with the letter Q you don't question the shade it comes in. Quench is a deep and glowy red creme jelly hybrid that perfect for a snowy winter night.

Cult Nails Quench
I had a bit of bad luck where right after applying my youngest son (9 mnts old) woke up and caused some wrinkles. Then tried to take a few pics on a super deary and raining day and nothing was coming out true to colour. This inspired me to try using my homemade light box. I have used it in the past, but have never shown those pics on this blog, I find them to have a yellow cast (anyone know what lights to use to prevent that?). Today I had day light, the light box and my camera, and decided to fold a piece of wax paper in front of the flash.

Taken in light box

What surprises me about Quench is how RED red it looks. To me in real life this shade is a deep saturated dark red that absorbs the light giving out a glowy appearance.

Does anyone have light box tips for a photography challenged nail blogger? Specifically lighting tips?

You can pick up Cult Nails HERE but I noticed that Quench is sold out at the moment (likely thanks to their recent birthday sale)- Did anyone pick up any?

Nails Inc Portobello

Hi! Its already Tuesday, it seems like only yesterday we were sad about it being Monday. (:P)

Like I promised, no vampy/ fall shade for our letter "P" today. Quite the opposite in fact! I have Nails Inc Portobello...which is a neon... Boy this is a case of the name not fitting the shade, or at least I don't get it. To me this is a Portobello:
To Nails Inc this is Portobello:

Nails Inc Portobello
See the resemblance?

Stamped with M57
I added some Zebra print using Konad stamp M57 and Essie No Place Like Chrome.
I am very happy with how the stamping turned out this time! Towards the last 2 fingers it gets pretty wonky, but thankfully due to the style of stamp you can barely notice it in real life :D This is leaps and bounds from where I was when I started my blog, so I'm a happy camper right now.

Have a great day everyone!

Essie Over The Top

I think I might be on a bit of a fall/vampy shades kick, because I have another dark one for you today: Essie Over The Top.

The first time I saw Over The Top, I knew I wanted it. I passed it up because I knew I had something similar. One day I just bought it, and "that-something-similar" (Sally Hansen Gun Metal) I mentioned previously, found a new home with the 11yr old girl that lives across the street... Problem solved. :) I added some large glitter pieces kindly given to me from Marta from Chit Chat Nails in iridescence, and green... but it all looked green on the nail.

Essie Over The Top

I wish I snapped a picture of Over The Top before I added the glitter toppers. It's a great dark charcoal polish with silver shimmer that strangely seems to stand out and blend in at the same time. It was a bit sheer and 3 coats of polish was needed. I likely could have worn 2, but I felt there was some depth lacking, and added the 3rd coat.

Over The Top is my "O" in the ABC Challenge.

I hope everyone had a refreshing weekend and is ready to take on Monday! (and I promise that my "P" won't be another vampy shade)

Bye for now X

KKCenterHK Nail Decal Review

Hi Guys!

I'm taking a quick break in the ABC Challenge to do a product review on some water decals sent to me from KKCenterHK. Let me tell you I had a hard time picking just one item, their store is full of different polishes, decals, rhinestones and nail care products (AND I better mention their claim-to-fame stock of eyelashes, wigs and other hair care products), I choose the gold peacock feathers found HERE.

This was my first time using water decals. How I applied  these was I cut out the image, soaked it for a few seconds in a glass of water, slid it off the backing and placed it on the nail. I should add the the gold is very shiny, it caught the eye of one of my friends, who commented on the high level of detail in these.

These were faster to use and not as messy as stamping. Way less bulky than nail stickers, also easier to place, if you make a mistake you can still slide it to the position you want. The decal laid flat, with no curling (even with top coat on), had good shine and reflectiveness. I also tried scratching the surface to see if the gold print would come off (it didn't).

The product cost $6.39 for 20 decals on a sheet. I feel like these would be great for an important event like a Christmas/ New Years Eve party and you want to dress to impress but (likely will be) going to be short on time.
Click the photo to go directly to KKCenterHK

KKCenterHK has graciously provided me with a 10% off coupon code for readers: nailcall
This code expires Jan 31 2013

If you're no stamping queen (because I know I got alooonnngg way to go) I recommend checking out KKCenterHK selection of decals, they range in price from $2.82-$7 and have a lot of great seasonal styles (Hello Halloween!! I'm soo THERE! or my personal favourite lol).

Thank You to KKCenterHK for providing me these decals for the review.

SO what do you guys think? Have you ever tried water decals? do you perfer stamping? or maybe you like to get your bling with rhinestones (A fave for me!)?

Thanks for reading! Have a great weekend :)

Zoya Neeka

Wow can you believe we are at "N" already in the ABC Challenge? We're more than half way done the alphabet yet I still feel like were just starting out! Time flies...

So my "N" is Zoya Neeka, a dusty purple with large flecks/small glitter in it. I am crazy for this shade, I remember when the Smoke and Mirrors collection came out I was calling my Trade Secrets every 2nd day looking for it. Then I randomly went to the mall one day... and there it was! Moral of the story: good things come to those who stalk their Trade Secrets...or something to that effect.

Zoya Neeka
Much to my embarrassment I'm posting a pic with my newest of new teeny freakin' numb on my middle finger! Please just ignore her and her bad behaviour.
I stamped using Essie No Place Like Chrome and Konad Plate M77. *Sigh* we will have to revisit a look similar to this, because my stamping is weak. I only dream of getting as good as a few of the stamping queens I follow on other blogs.

Thank you for looking!

Cult Nails Manipulative

Hey everyone!

Today I have to use a back logged picture for my "M" polish. I was doing laundry, bent down to grab something and broke my middle nail against the base board. I broke it really F'n deep too! Grrr... I feel the need to add that I pretty much only EVER break my middle nail. So to you, middle finger, I direct my wrath of ten thousand burning suns.

On the bright side I really love the polish I'm about to show you. Cult Nails Manipulative is a peppy bright and fun blue creme which leans green. There is some shimmer in the bottle but it disappears on the nail. I heard someone comment that it looks different depending on your skin colour and I tend to agree.

Cult Nails Manipulative

I wore this look for 4 days and it wore well. I am very fond of pastel colours that do not come off as stark, and manipulative is just perfect.

Cult Nails is having a Birthday Sale for Maria (the owner & Creator of Cult Nails), all polishes are $7 right now until the 12th. If you've been itching to try any Cult shades now is the time! Once all her discontinued colours are gone they're gone for good!

Bye for now! X Karen
